Welcome! I am delighted that you are sharing some of your time here with me. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
When it comes to writing stories, my hope is that as you enter the fictional world of each novel, you feel rewarded for the time you spend, meeting new characters and gaining lasting recollections of some of these “book folks” by the time you reach the final pages. I want to give you a reason to smile, feel engaged, and gain fresh insight into some aspect of human nature that you find interesting.
Raised in Manitoba, I grew up with my family in an old house situated on a lovely river property in Winnipeg. My home was filled with music, and bustling with visits from family and friends. I was fortunate to have the resources to attend university where I earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. After getting married, my husband Art Kampen and I remained in our home city and raised a daughter and two sons. Our family grew with the addition of their partners and our precious grandchildren. Pets are part of our family life as well – a shar-pei, a basenji, and a corgi are members of the family circle.
I love spending time relaxing with family and friends. I like walking, reading, watching foreign language movies, and playing tunes on my 1905 Bell piano. I am a past provincial president of P.E.O., an international women’s organization that supports education and leadership for women, and I am active in my local chapter, appreciating the friendship of a close-knit group. During our short northern summers, I enjoy gardening in my backyard and learning from friends in the Manitoba Master Gardener Association. If like gardening, you might want to visit my gardening blog at www.cookiebuxton.com.
Before launching my career as an author in 2021, I worked in communications and marketing for an international consulting firm and two universities. Early in my career, I worked in public relations and journalism and was the co-author and project leader for five non-fiction books comprising The Canadian Breast Cancer Series.
